Criteria for Good Deductive & Inducive Arguments

1. They must be valid.

valid deducive argument: argument in which premises if true guarantee truth of conclusion

valid inductive argument: argument in which premises if true show conclusion is probably true

2. They must have true premises.

2. If they are deductive, they shouldn't be circular; if inductive they shouldn't be biased.

circular argument uses its conclusion as premise. (Q-begging argument)

biased inductive argument suppresses evidence harmful to its conclusion
